Color trends of the past decade have focused primarily on white and neutral interiors, but after a dreary few years and a lot of time stuck at home since the pandemic, it’s clear that people are ready for a bolder, more playful aesthetic when it comes to color usage within their home. 

This trend can be seen with Glidden’s Color of the Year 2023 prediction, Vining Ivy (PPG1148-6) - a color that’s "so nice, we picked it twice," said color experts at PPG (the parent company of Glidden) who also named Vining Ivy their pick for Color of the Year 2023. 

2022 was all about greens. Vining Ivy expands upon that trend, fusing the natural elements of greens with jewel tones to create a calming, yet playful shade that beautifully straddles green and blue. Glidden’s experts are calling this trendsetter a "bluish-greenish-something-in-betweenish" color. “Even our experts don’t know if it’s blue or green, but we know a vibe when we see one,” says Ashley McCollum, Glidden’s color expert.

It’s A Vibe

It’s no secret that colors evoke certain moods, and while the versatility and adaptability of this color helped rank it high on designer and color expert’s wish lists, it’s the contrasting, yet balanced feelings this shade conjures that landed it at the top of 2023’s lists. 

“It is energizing yet grounding, and it works in literally any space. Its versatility takes the guesswork out of design, leaving consumers with more time to indulge in the things that matter most to them," says McCollum.  

“This tone serves up versatile vibes, making it an on-trend addition to contemporary designs or a refined pop of color for those with more traditional taste."

Jewel tones are associated with luxury; in traditional spaces, create an actual jewel box effect by painting the millwork, walls, and trim the same shade. For a more luxurious yet playful look, pair the color with bright white trim and brass accents to highlight the underlying richness of the shade.
